Protecting the Environment and Enhancing Soil Fertility:
Recognizing the detrimental impact of using forests for new agricultural fields when soils are depleted, Felister took on the responsibility of creating a demonstration plot and forty compost piles. Her tireless efforts have not only benefited the local farmers but have also paved the way for a more sustainable and ecologically conscious agricultural practice.
Felister's passion for environmental conservation extends to imparting essential knowledge to the next generation. Her training of 70 Roots and Shoots Club members from Ilangu and Isubangala Primary Schools in compost making and application has laid the foundation for a future generation well-versed in environmental conservation.
Enterpreneurship and Forest Preservation.
Despite her humble background, Felister's empowered worldview has driven her to raise capital and start a Kitenge fabric enterprise in her village. Her resilience and dedication have not only elevated her status within the community but have also supported her family's education expenses. Furthermore, her sustainable collection and sale of wild mushrooms from the forest underscore her commitment to preserving the natural resources that sustain her community's economy.
Felister's journey has been marked by challenges, including ageism, gender bias, and religious opposition to family planning. Despite these obstacles, Felister's unwavering determination has allowed her to emerge as a powerful force for change, inspiring others to follow her lead in creating a better future.
